God of War Ragnarok features a large number of one-of-a-kind foes that show up at various points throughout the game. As you progress through the game and face increasingly formidable foes, you will find that the damage you inflict on them decreases to the point where you will need to upgrade your weapons. Each type of weapon requires a unique type of weapon material in order to advance in level. When you have a crafting component in your possession, you can take it to any Blacksmith to have your weapon improved.
The Thrungva, the Blades of Chaos, the Draupnir Spear, and the Leviathan Axe are the four weapons that are going to be covered in this guide. For you to be able to acquire certain materials, you will need to first vanquish all of the necessary foes. The following provides you with all the information you require concerning the acquisition of all the material for weapon upgrades.
###Upgrading The Leviathan Axe
One of the primary weapons that you have access to right from the beginning of the game is the Leviathan Axe. In order to upgrade the weapon, you will need the Frozen Flame, which is a material used in crafting. You will find a total of eight Frozen Flames throughout the game, each of which can be used to bring the level of your Axe up to level nine. Because they are essential to the progression of the story, you won’t be able to avoid finding most of the Flames. However, in order to acquire some items, you will need to complete side quests, defeat bosses, or travel to one of the nine realms.

You will need to defeat The Huntress in the Lower Wildwoods of Midgard if you want to obtain the first Frozen Flame. The primary story mission, “Surviving Fimbulwinter,” features her as a playable character. Following the completion of the boss fight, she will drop the Frozen Flame, which can be retrieved from the ground as a piece of loot.

###Upgrading The Blades Of Chaos
Another one of the primary weapons that you have access to right from the beginning of the game is the Blades of Chaos. In order to upgrade the weapon, you will need the Chaos Flame, which is a material used in crafting. You have access to eight different Chaos Flames throughout the game, any one of which can be used to bring the level of your Blades up to nine.
The very first Chaos Flame can be found in Svartalfheim during the primary story mission known as “The Quest for Tyr.” Along the path that leads to Applecore, you will eventually run into Dreki. If you are able to defeat it, you will be rewarded with the Chaos Flame.
#Chaos Flame 2: The second Chaos Flame can be found in Vanaheim during “The Reckoning,” the primary story mission. You will eventually face the Forest Ancient, a boss character in the game. If you are able to defeat it, you will receive your second Chaos Flame as a reward.
The third Chaos Flame can be found during the main story mission “The World of Fate,” which takes place in the Well of Urd of Midgard. You will have to contend with the Frost Phantom in this area. After you have vanquished it, you will be able to retrieve the Choas Flame that was dropped on the ground.
#ChaosFlame4: The fourth Chaos Flame can be found in Freyr’s Camp in Vanaheim during the “Creatures of Prophecy” main story mission. You will battle against a pair of Drekis. You will not obtain the Chaos Flame until both of them have been vanquished.
#ChaosFlame5: The fifth Chaos Flame can be found in Muspelheim’s Sutr’s Forge during the main story mission known as “The Summoning.” During the course of this mission, you are going to run into two Soul Eaters. You must win against both of them in order to obtain the Chaos Flame.
#ChoasFlame6: Before you can acquire the sixth Choas Flame, you will need to locate the two Muspelheim Seeds. The Favor known as “The Crucible” will begin as soon as you have obtained the first Seed. The very first Seed can be found within a Legendary Chest that can be found at Modvitnir’s Rig in Svartalfheim. The second Seed can be found in Alberich Hollow, within one of the many Legendary Chests that can be found there. Once you have both seeds, you must then make your way to Muspelheim and finish the Crucible Challenges there. You will receive the Chaos Flame once all of the challenges have been completed.
#ChaosFlame7 The seventh Chaos Flame can be found in Vanaheim’s The Sinkholes area. There is a Berserker Gravestone that can be discovered within the area. Engage it in conversation to kick off the battle against Haklangr the Bearded. If you are able to defeat him, you will be rewarded with the Chaos Flame.
#ChaosFlame #8: In order to obtain the eighth and final Chaos Flame, you will not need to collect the Chaos Flame itself; rather, you will need to collect the Chaos Sparks. These Chaos Sparks are obtained through the destruction of The Hateful, which can be found in all nine realms. After you have vanquished all six Hateful, you will be rewarded with all six Chaos Sparks, which when combined will result in one Chaos Flame.
###Upgrading The Draupnir Spear
Kratos can attack enemies at a distance with the Draupnir Spear. You will obtain it while completing the primary story mission known as “Forging Destiny.” It is necessary to have the Gale Flame in order to upgrade the weapon. Your Spear can be maxed out by using any one of these four Gale Flames.
The very first Gale Flame can be found in Muspelheim during the primary story mission known as “The Summoning.” You will have to engage in combat with both Hrist and Mist, who are both valkyries. You will obtain a Gale Flame as a reward for defeating them.
#Gale Flame #2: Once you have finished the Favor “Scent of Survival,” you will need to make your way to the celestial altar in order to complete this task. You should make it nighttime and begin the “Nocturnal Predator” favour in the Crater of Vanaheim as soon as you can. You will have to engage in combat with a Flame Phantom at various points throughout the Favor. You will receive your second Gale Flame if you are successful in defeating it.
#Gale Flame 3: To acquire the third Gale Flame, navigate to the Jarnsmida Pitmines in Svartalfheim and engage in conversation with the Berserker Gravestone that can be found there. The battle against Bodvar the Fierce and Starolfr the Troublesome will begin as soon as this is done. You will be able to take possession of the Gale Flame once the battle is over.
#Gale Flame #4: After completing the main story mission “The Reckoning” and defeating Nidhogg, make your way to Sindri’s House and speak with Ratatoskr there. This will unlock the next Gale Flame. You will receive the Favor titled “The Lost Lindwyrms” as well as a trap that is required to bring back all six Lindwyrms from this encounter. However, in order to get to the chest, you will need to have access to the Draupnir Spear, which will become available once you complete the primary story mission “Forging Destiny.”
#Folkvangr Whetstone #3: The third Whetstone can be found in The Lost Treasury in Midgard, within a Legendary Chest. During the course of the Favor known as “Sigrun’s Curse,” you will travel to this region.
#Folkvangr Whetstone #4: In order to acquire the fourth Folkvangr Whetstone, you will need to complete the favour known as “Casualty of War: The Brooch” in The Plains of Vanaheim. During the course of this Favor, you will run into Egil the Oath Guard, and in order to win this Favor and obtain the final Whetstone, you will need to defeat him.
