The world of God of War: Ragnarok is enormous, and there are numerous side regions and activities to complete both before and after the main game. For example, the Crater is a massive side area that is packed to the brim with optional boss fights, quests, and a great deal more. The Wishing Well in the Crater is an excellent way to earn very rare upgrade materials and equipment.
Even though travelling to this region is not required in any way, it is highly recommended that you schedule time in your schedule to go there and explore everything it has to offer. The rewards and enhancements that can be obtained make it more than worth your while to do so. If there is any location that requires you to make a detour to investigate and invest a significant amount of time in, make it The Crater. When you have collected enough Crystalline Shards, throw them into the Wishing Well.
###How To Unlock The Wishing Well
The Wishing Well can be found in The Crater, a region in Vanaheim that is explorable if the player so chooses. However, in order to gain access to this location, you will need to fulfil a few prerequisites first. This won’t be too much of a problem, except for the fact that you will need to make a significant amount of headway in the game’s primary storyline. This means that it could be several hours into your journey before you reach this point, especially if you like to go off on your own and complete side quests. Nevertheless, the requirements to enter The Crater are listed below for your convenience.
#Requirements You must first finish the main quest titled “Creatures of Prophecy.”
Start the optional side quest known as “Scent of Survival.”
After you have satisfied the requirements listed above, you will be able to begin your journey to The Crater and will be required to follow Helka’s footprints. These will lead you to a location in which you will be required to use your newly acquired Skidbladner boat to soar into the new region, which will be known as The Crater. When you reach this region, your primary objective will be to locate and save Birgir; however, you are free to explore this area however you see fit, which gives you the ability to get to the Cleansing Pool earlier if that is something you desire to do.
#With Best Regards Location: The Cleansing Pool can be found on the western side of The Crater, which can be reached by travelling west from the Mystic Gateway that is the starting point of the region. When you reach this location, you will need to make use of the Celestial Altar that is located here in order to change the time of day to night. Take this path until you reach a cave entrance that has two dragon heads perched on either side of it. The pathway that leads to the south end of The Crater and is called “The Jungle” will become accessible to you when you reach this location.
Continue through the cave, fending off all of the foes and using your Blades of Chaos and Sigil Arrows to torch any brush that needs to be traversed in order to get deeper into the cave. This will trigger the side quest “Return of the River.” After making it through the cave, you will come upon a dam that contains even more foes once you emerge from the cave. After you have eliminated them, use your Drapunir Spear to cut a path through the dam that will lead you to the other side.
When you reach this location, you will need to make use of additional Sigil Arrows as well as your Blades of Chaos in order to clear away additional brush on the wall that is directly to your left. As soon as you enter this area, you can get rid of the first half of the challenge. Nevertheless, the second half of the game will call for some strategy on your part. You will notice pieces of the ground intentionally placed near the crank so that they reach out towards the wall. You will need to shoot Sigil Arrows that connect to one another and lead from the brush to in front of the platform to the right of the wheel. This will enable you to run to the edge of the walkway and use your Blades of Chaos to ignite the brush, thereby killing the Nokken hiding away in the wall. This will enable you to defeat the remaining foes in the area, turn the wheel, and restore water to The Crater, thereby completing the “Return of the River” side-quest
As soon as you have filled The Crater with water again, you will be able to use boats to travel to new locations. When you entered The Forest for the first time, you may remember the moment when you stumbled upon two Ogres who were throwing boulders at you while at the same time you were being healed by Nokkens and there was no way to approach them. You can finally leave the dock that is located close to the entrance of The Jungle in order to take the boat and sail it around the island where the Ogres are located. Make your way onto the island, deal with the Nokkens first, and then concentrate on one of the Ogres until you can climb onto it and use it to deal damage to the other Ogre. This will allow you to breeze through this part of the mission.
After you have vanquished the Ogres, you will be able to open a gate on the island that will allow you to enter a cave. If you continue through this cave, you will eventually reach the Wishing Well. At the Wishing Well, you can use the Crystalline Shards and Crystalline Fragments that you have collected to exchange them for one-of-a-kind equipment and useful materials. You will find additional entrance points to the Wishing Well as you continue to explore more of The Crater. This means that you will have multiple ways to access the Cleansing Pool, allowing you to trade even more Crystalline Shards or Fragments that you obtain as you continue to explore The Crater.
###All Wishing Well Rewards
You can collect Crystalline Shards and Crystalline Fragments by destroying the large orange Crystals that are scattered across The Crater and collecting the materials that fall out of them after you do so. Shards are what some will drop, while fragments are what others will give you. To the best of our knowledge, both options provide the same benefits; however, tossing Fragments into the pond is more or less equivalent to tossing in several Shards, so this effectively increases their value in terms of ‘points.’
When Mimir begins to make hints that you should return to the Wishing Well to cleanse some of the Crystals, that is your cue that you will get something in return. This something could be unique equipment, Level 9 Crafting Material, or even a mix of the two, depending on how much money you have saved up. The following provides an exhaustive inventory of all the advantages accruing from participation in the Cleansing Pool.
