Elden Ring Guide – West Liurnia – Dungeons, Points of Interest, and Secrets

One of the three regions that together make up the expansive region of Liurnia of the Lakes in Elden Ring, West Liurnia is one of those areas. On this page, you will find an overview of the region, which details the primary dungeons, bosses, loot, and secrets that can be discovered in this area.

West Liurnia is the name given to the expansive highlands and mountain areas of the Liurnia Region. It is home to a desolate albinauric village that is tucked away in the shadow of a massive mountaintop that is known as the Moonlight Altar (which can only be reached later on in the game), as well as the mysterious and fortified Caria Manor, which is located to the north.

This region is home to a great number of mysteries as well as a wide variety of creatures, such as enemy camps, patrols of soldiers, and even toxic bogs.

West Liurnia Map Stele Locations

It is necessary for you to acquire three Map Fragments from the Steles that are situated in East Liurnia, North Liurnia, and West Liurnia in order to uncover the specifics and topography of the entire Liurnia region.

You can locate the West Liurnia Map Fragment close to the most northwestern point of the island. It is located far to the north of the Academy of Raya Lucaria and Testu’s Rise, on a small road that is located above the waterline and just before the Kingsrealm Ruins, and it is on the path that leads to Caria Manor.

West Liurnia World Bosses and Invasions

The region of West Liurnia is home to a number of world bosses that can be encountered outside of dungeons. Some of these bosses are free-roaming and can be found in specific zones, while others are hidden and won’t appear until you get close enough to them. In addition to this, there are multiple pre-written invasions carried out by NPC humans that will engage you in combat. Simply selecting a Boss to investigate further will reveal more information on how they can be defeated.

West Liurnia Merchants and NPCs

As you travel throughout the land of Liurnia, you’ll run into a number of people who are friendly, or at least appear to be friendly, and you’ll have the opportunity to talk to them, as well as buy and sell with them to obtain one-of-a-kind items.

The Albinauric named Albus is a non-player character that can be found in the Village of Albinaurics. Up the hill from the Village of Albinaurics Site of Grace, he is disguising himself as a large clay pot so that he can avoid detection. As soon as he hands over the Haligtree Secret Medallion to you, he will meet his death (Right).

After you have finished speaking with Nepheli Loux at the Roundtable Hold, you can find her lingering beneath the stone bridge that leads up to the Village of Albinaurics. Nepheli is Gideon Ofnir’s biological daughter who was given up for adoption. She will assist you in vanquishing the Roaming Boss of the village, Omenkiller.

War Counselor Iji – War Counselor Iji is a member of Ranni’s council and has served the royal family of Carian Manor as a smith for their entire lives. Iji is the first non-player character (NPC) you will meet in Liurnia who will connect you to the Ranni the Witch Questline. She is located outside of Blaidd in East Limgrave. In addition to that, he deals in Upgrading Materials. If you assisted Blaidd in vanquishing the Bloodhound Knight at the Limgrave evergaol, he will have instructed you to speak with Iji. As a reward for your assistance, Iji will include a talisman in his inventory in addition to the sombre smithing stones.

Ranni the Witch will first introduce herself to you as Renna in the Church of Elleh in Limgrave. However, when you meet her again inside her tower in the Three Sisters region of Liurnia Lakes, she will reveal her true identity to you and give you her full name. When you have finished her quest, you will be able to select the “Age of Stars” ending for the game. This will happen when the game is over. To learn more, have a look at our comprehensive guide on the Ranni the Witch Questline.

Seluvis is a sorcerer who is a member of Ranni’s council. Selivus resides in the tower in the Three Sisters that is the farthest to the south. The Seluvis Questline and the Ranni Questline intertwine, and depending on the choices you make, this will result in different conclusions for both questlines. In addition to that, you can buy from him some sorceries of a moderate to a high level. If you call him out on this, he may offer to sell you some creepy “puppets” as spirit summons in exchange for Starlight Shards. He also has a secret cellar full of creepy “puppets,” and if you call him out on this, he may offer to sell you some puppets as spirit summons.

Pidia, Carian Servant is an elderly merchant who can be found in the Carian Manor Major Dungeon. In order to enter his chamber, you will need to descend from the cliffs in the Three Sisters area of the dungeon. He deals in luxury items such as the Larval Tear, Celestial Dew, and a lot more of that sort of thing. You would find him dead atop the altar if you did not communicate with him or finish Selivus’s quest after completing Ranni’s questline. The Bell Bearing that he wore can be looted from his dead body.

West Liurnia Points of Interest

As you travel through West Liurnia, you will come across a variety of interesting locations, enemy camps, and other points of interest. All of these can be found by exploring the region. Each location has something that is interesting enough to warrant exploration, despite the variety of foes and treasures that can be found there.

If you click on a location of interest, you will be taken to a section further down the page that provides a more in-depth explanation of that location, including the foes you will face and the secrets you can find.

Village of Albinaurics

Exploring the swamp to the west of Liurnia will lead you to the ruins of a village that once stood there. You should find a few Giant Crabs roaming the area if you head west from the Scenic Isle Site of Grace until you reach the southern landmass of the region. Follow the slope to the left until you reach the top; the village of Albinaurics can be found below the plateau.

Continue climbing until you reach the village’s Site of Grace, which is close to an abandoned shack and the well where the spectral NPC is located. Climb the slope that is close by. At the very top, there will be a Permufer; once you have dealt with him, proceed upward until you come to a stone coffin. Next to that coffin is a large clay pot, and it will only show Albus to the viewer if it is broken. Albus is a one-time non-playable character who has the ability to hand over the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right). This important piece of a Key Item is necessary for gaining access to a hidden route leading to the Consecrated Snowfield.

After you have finished talking to Albus, you should proceed to the stone bridge that is close by. On the bridge, you will find some Albinaurics, which are not difficult to kill. Maintain your forward momentum and stop at the end of the bridge to make use of your Summoning Ashes. The Omenkiller is a Field Boss that can be found in front of the bonfire. When he is defeated, he will drop the Crucible Knot Talisman.

Converted Tower

On the western portion of the main landmass of Liurnia, one of the first locations you’ll come across is called the Converted Tower. Climb to the top of the crumbling ruins of the tower that are located directly to the right of the Site of Grace. You can run, jump, or use Torrent to get to the top of the building; once there, climb the stairs, open the chest, and take the Memory Stone that’s inside.

Moving Caravan

This caravan is heavily protected by a large number of Raya Lucarian soldiers, attack dogs, noble sorcerers, and other types of guards. They begin their assault from the enemy encampment located directly below The Four Belfries. We advise you to hold off until the caravan comes to a stop at the nearby coast, as this is the point at which the adversaries will split up into multiple groups. Steal the Carian Knight’s Sword from within the chest after sneaking up behind the trolls and attacking them from behind.

The Four Belfries

The Four Belfries is a one-of-a-kind point of interest in the Lands Between that features three Waygates, each of which can transport you to a different area of the region. In order to open each Waygate, you are going to need one Imbued Stonesword Key. We’ll begin at the beginning and work our way down to explain where each of these Waygates will lead you.

The very first Belfry, which is located at the very top of the map, does not have a Waygate; however, it does have a chest that contains an Imbued Stonesword Key. There is also a Site of Grace located directly adjacent to it for convenient access in situations in which you have access to more than one key.

The second Belfry will take you back to the Chapel of Anticipation, which is the exact location where the game first began for you. After you have vanquished this boss, you will receive the Ornamental Straight Sword and the Golden Beast Crest Shield as rewards. After that, you can go back to the place where the game initially began to find a door that you can activate that will take you to the second floor, which is where you will find both the Stormhawk Deenh Ashes and the Stormhawk King (that can eventually be given to Nepheli).

The third belfry will take you to the Eternal City of Nokron, which is located in the Siofra River. Although it is a part of Nokron, the area where you are transported is only a small section and the only things it has to offer are a Mottled Necklace +1 lying on a body nearby and a Crucible Knight standing at the other end of the broken aqueduct. The Knight does not drop any loot, despite the fact that he is very difficult to defeat.

You will be transported to a section of the Crumbling Farum Azula Legacy Dungeon that is more compact and floats in the air when you enter the fourth Belfry. Continue to descend the floating stone platforms until you come across a couple of Beatmen who are waiting nearby to engage you in combat. They are an extremely difficult foe, even more so than the one that was in the Groveside Cave, so you should try to avoid them and run past them if at all possible. Return to the previous level and retrieve the Pearldrake Talisman from the dead body that is currently resting next to the ledge. To leave this area, you will need to use teleportation to get to the Site of Grace of your choosing.

If you are looking for additional Imbued Keys to travel to through these locked sending gates, you can find a second Imbued Sword Key inside the Legacy Dungeon of the Academy of Raya Lucaria, on the low rooftops that lead off to the top of the Church of the Cuckoo. If you are looking for additional Imbued Keys to travel to through these locked sending gates, you can also find a third Imbued Sword Key in the Legacy Dungeon of You’ll need to travel all the way to Caelid to find the third Imbued Sword Key. It’s hidden in a chest in Sellia, the Town of Sorcery, and the only way to open it is to light up one of the towers in the area.

Kingsrealm Ruins

You can find the Northern Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace if you continue travelling north on the main road from the location where you’d find the enemy caravan. Just to the north of here is where you can pick up the Map of Liurnia, West. There are a few Noble Sorcerers in this area who have the ability to hide in plain sight.

You can access an underground boss room by rolling on top of an apparent floor that is located to the north-east of the map. This will take you to the room where the boss is located. Although his moveset and the fact that he can become invisible can be a nuisance, defeating the Royal Revenant is a relatively simple task if you call upon a spirit to divert his attention away from his rapid charging attacks. Defeat him, open the door leading to the back of the room, and then take the thrusting sword of the Frozen Needle from the chest.

To the north of the ruins, you’ll find War Counselor Iji, who is both a blacksmith and an important NPC in the Ranni the Witch Questline. You will receive directions from him to the Major Dungeon known as Caria Manor, which is located to the very north of Liurnia. If you tell Iji that Blaidd sent you, he will add a talisman to his wares for you to purchase; otherwise, you can use him to buy an abundance of sombre smithing stones or upgrade your armaments at his smithing table. You may have heard about Iji from Blaidd back in Limgrave.

Three Sisters

Ranni the Witch and her councils are connected in some way to the locations known as the Three Sisters, which take their name from the three towers that can be found to the west of Caria Manor. Ranni’s Rise is the place to go to find her. Be wary of the Glinstone Dragon Adula as you approach the entrance to her tower; when her health falls below 50%, the dragon will flee to the Cathedral of Manus Celes located to the south.

You can find Seluvis in the tower he occupies in the south; for more information, have a look at our comprehensive guide on the Seluvis Questline. Be sure to scavenge the Black Wolf Mask that can be found on the damaged wall behind Seluvis’s Rise.

Once you reach a certain point in the Renna the Witch Questline, you will be able to access the northern area of Renna’s Rise. On the second floor of the tower can be found a chest that contains the Snow Witch Set. You will be transported to a different part of the Ainsel River if you use the Waygate that is located at the very top.

Caria Manor Cemetery

You can reach this large cemetery by going outside from the Royal Moongazing Grounds Site of Grace and turning right. The cemetery is located behind the Caria Manor. Follow the path and slay the Teardrop Scarab to obtain the sorcery that will allow you to use the Frozen Armament. Continue travelling in the same direction until you reach the Site of Grace that is located behind Caria Manor.

As you move to the northeast from the Site of Grace, you will find a ghost lurking behind a large stone sitting in a chair. As a reward for finishing the “Resurrection” painting in East Liurnia’s Artist’s Shack, the Juvenile Scholar will drop a Larval Tear in addition to the Juvenile Scholar Cap and the Juvenile Scholar Robe.

Moonlight Altar

The Moonlight Altar is located on the plateau that towers over the Albinaurics Village. After you have vanquished Astel, Naturalborn of the Void in the Grand Cloister, which is reached by travelling from the Lake of Rot through the underground area of Nokstella, Eternal City, you will be able to access this region for the first time.

The Moonlight Altar encompasses a large portion of West Liurnia and is home to a large number of enemies that are extremely dangerous, as well as rewards and content that are optional in all directions.

You can find not one, but three unnamed Glintstone Dragons all resting in close proximity to one another just to the north of the entrance to the Ainsel Deep Well. They aren’t technically bosses, but they can be challenging to take down, especially if you happen to accidentally wake up all of them at the same time. Because of this, you’ll need to be careful when you attack them and try to take them down one at a time while avoiding getting too close to the others so they can join the fight. One Dragon Heart will be dropped by each of them, for a total of three.

As you make your way up the hill from the Site of Grace at the Moonlight Altar, you will soon run into the Glinstone Dragon Adula once more. In spite of the fact that it is not necessary to defeat him in order to enter the Cathedral of Manus Celes, doing so results in the drop of a Dragon Heart and the Adula’s Moonblade sorcery, in addition to the activation of a special spell at the Dragon Communion Altar.

The Cathedral of Manus Celes is an excellent location to visit in order to acquire a number of Starlight Shards. You can reach Ranni, the final boss of her questline, by going under the cathedral through the broken floor to the right of the altar. If you are successful, she will give you the legendary Dark Moon Greatsword as a reward.

In the Moonfolk Ruins, which are located to the north of the Cathedral, you’ll find some Noble Undead who are slowly fading away. Below them, you’ll find an illusory floor that leads to a cellar with a Somber Smithing Stone 8.

The Lunar Estate Ruins are located to the south of the Cathedral. This is an area where Royal Revenants may spawn to ambush and deal massive damage; however, you are able to call upon a spirit in this region to help you fight back against them. If you search the western estate ruins, you should look for another illusory stone floor that leads to a cellar entrance that has its own Imp Seal. This entrance leads to a chest that contains a Cerulean Amber Talisman +2, and you will need a Stonesword Key to open it.

You’ll find a path leading down to the Ringleader’s Evergaol in the far northwest, which is where a very challenging Black Knife Assassin boss can be fought. To the south of this path is a small ridge with three stone shrines that are guarded by a Red Wolf of Radagon. Both of these locations are in the same area. After you have vanquished it, you will be able to help yourself to an abundance of Smithing Stones in the shrines, including 6 Smithing Stone 7s and 3 Smithing Stone 8s!

Finally, the road leading down to the southwest corner is guarded by Crystalians that are not the bosses. This road leads to Chelona’s Rise as well as a road through the forest that is filled with Crystal Slugs and Alpha Wolves.

Chelona’s Rise

If you don’t already know where to look, you might have a hard time finding Chelona’s Rise because it’s tucked away in the far southwest corner of the Moonlight Altar, a small wizard tower that has its own puzzle for you to solve.

There is, just like in the other wizard towers, a statue of an imp that is holding a message that causes the riddle to be activated. The message reads, “Seek the three wise beasts.” After you have interacted with the note, you will need to search the entire Moonlight Altar plateau in order to find three very large spectral turtles.

The turtle that is closest to you can be found just to the north of the tower along the cliffside of the corner. Using a ranged weapon or spell, hunt down the turtle that is clinging to the side of the cliff and attack it to get rid of it. You can find the regular turtles that are in the area by looking for them and peering down the edge of the cliff.

The second turtle can be found very far to the north on the path that leads to the Evergaol that the Ringleader uses. A large densely wooded area can be found close to the jail, and in the middle of this area is an oddly placed Spiritspring Jump. If you look up, you will see the spectral turtle floating above the forest, and in order to defeat it, you will need to run into it when you jump up with Torrent.

Run through the road past the crystal snails and wolves until the path climbs up a small hill in order to reach the final turtle, which is located in the extreme southeast corner of the Moonlight Altar. When the path makes a U-turn and goes upwards and back to the west, look instead down the southeast cliffs to find a small lower platform below that is surrounded by small turtles, and the spectral turtle will be there as well.

Once all of the turtles have been vanquished, you should go back to Chelona’s Rise and climb to the very top in order to claim your reward, which is a legendary spell called Ranni’s Dark Moon.

West Liurnia Scarab Locations

As you make your way through this area, you might come across a few scarabs dashing off in different directions. Some of them will refill your flask of tears, but others can reward you with unique items, including the following:

Village of the Albinaurics Scarab

  • Reward: Ash of War – Vow of the Indomitable

A massive mountain that has been hollowed out can be found on the extreme western side of Liurnia. Below the mountain is a village that has been abandoned and poisonous swamps. Look for a scarab in the poison swamp region on the southern side of the map, and then ride into the area on horseback to claim it, keeping an eye out for ambushes by giant crabs.

Converted Tower Scarab

  • Reward: Somber Smithing Stone 2

A collection of ledges and platforms can be found on the northern edge of the poison swamp close to the Village of the Albinaurics. From these vantage points, you can see the Converted tower to the north as well as some nearby woods. You can find a scarab perched on the edge of one of these larger peaks or ledges if you look around those areas.

Road’s End Catacombs Scarab

  • Reward: Ash of War – Sword Dance

Near the Minor Erdtree, on the far northwest edge of Liurnia, there is a path that leads down to a miniature dungeon that runs along the cliffs. Along the winding path that the passage will take you on, there will be a scarab waiting for you to discover it.

Three Sisters Scarab

  • Reward: Ash of War – Chilling Mist Spell

After you have finished exploring Caria Manor to the north, you will come across a group of towers known as the Three Sisters when you exit the manor through the door. You have the opportunity to go on the hunt for a scarab that is hiding among the ruins here.

Caria Cemetery Scarab

  • Reward: Frozen Armament Spell

A long path that loops around Caria Manor and leads to a large cemetery can be found directly across from the path that leads to the three sisters above Caria Manor. This cemetery is home to many wolves and a few vanishing mages. Keep an eye out for a scarab that you can attack along the main path.

West Liurnia Secrets

As was to be expected, there are a large number of mysteries for you to solve throughout the Elden Ring region. These mysteries range from imp statue doors to teleporters, mimics, and items that are hidden away. In this location, you will find all of the secrets that have been discovered thus far in the North Liurnia region.

Seluvis’ Secret Cellar

After speaking with Ranni the Witch and her creepy advisor Seluvis, search the ruins outside of Ranni’s Tower for a large stone floor that you can attack to reveal an illusory floor that leads to a hidden basement. You can do this after you have spoken with Ranni the Witch and Seluvis.

Inside are dozens of static characters that Seluvis refers to as “puppets.” There is also a hidden illusory wall in the back that leads to a copy of Sorceress Sellen’s room in the Waypoint Ruins.

If you investigate the message that Seluvis has left behind and confront him about it, he will become angry with you, but he will eventually give in and offer to sell you puppets that can be used in combat to summon spirits. You will be able to choose between two and three puppets, and you will have to use starlight shards to acquire the remaining puppets. This will depend on the decisions you make regarding his offer to drug Nepheli. For more information on the other propositions that Seluvis has, please refer to his questline.
