In Elden Ring, you’ll run into a lot of NPCs, and a few of them, like Sorceress Sellen, will have optional quests for you to carry out. In this section of our guide to the Elden Ring, you will find information about where to find her, how to begin her questline, and the repercussions of the decisions you make as you progress through the storyline.
Where to Find Sorceress Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins
In the beginning, Sorceress Sellen can be discovered in the ruins of Waypoint in Limgrave. You will have to engage in combat with a Pumpkin Head boss in order to enter her chamber, which is located at the far end of this modest underground arena.
Go through the door, then make your way over to the sorceress and introduce yourself to her. She admits that she is a social outcast, but that she is willing to teach you how to practise sorcery. Take advantage of the opportunity to become her apprentice. Be sure to give her any Glintstone Sorcery Scrolls that you find in order to unlock new sorcery options as you progress through the game.
From this point on, you will need to continue travelling the world on your own until you reach the region of the Altus Plateau that is dominated by Mount Gelmir. You will be able to advance further on Sellen’s quest if you locate the necessary key item that is located in this location.
Finding Sorcerer Azur in Mt. Gelmir
You’ll find a Site of Grace in Mt. Gelmir known as Primeval Sorcerer Azur if you travel to the Hermit Village there and make your way to the very end of the mountain. You will have the opportunity to speak with Azur, the Primordial Sorcerer, who will provide you with Azur’s Comet if you do so. You should be aware that your only other option for interacting with Azur is to receive Azur’s Comet; you have no other choices.
After returning to Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins, select the new dialogue option “show Azur’s sorcery” from the menu. Since Azur was Sellen’s first teacher, she believes that he must have recognised something special in you in order to bestow the comet upon you. You have the option of putting pressure on Sellen and asking her to share her story with you. She explains why she was kicked out of the Academy of Raya Lucaria and asks for your assistance with the Primal Glintstone during this portion of the conversation.
You have the option of saying “let me think about it” or “let us journey together.” Both are valid responses. If you decide to go on the journey with Sellen, she will give you the Sellian Selbreaker and give you a quest to find Master Lusat if you agree to go with her. You can continue your conversation with her and ask for additional information about Lusat if you are unsure of what steps to take next. She will inform you that he went back to his house in Sellia, which is located in the Town of Sorcery.
Finding Sorcerer Lusat in Sellia, Town of Sorcery
Sellia, located in the Town of Sorcery, and the Sellia Hideaway in particular. This is concealed behind a wall of illusion just to the southwest of Fort Faroth in Caelid; the Church of the Plague is the nearest Site of Grace to this location. Proceed inside, and once you’re there, begin searching for the hidden path that runs along the northwest portion of the cavern. The page devoted to Sellia Hideaway in this guide contains all of the information necessary to successfully navigate through this dungeon.
You will come across a large blue seal at the very bottom of the cave. This seal is very similar to the ones that were used to seal off the entrances to Raya Lucaria. As you get closer to it, a prompt will appear suggesting that you use the Sellian Sealbreaker. If you do so, the seal will be broken, and you will be able to enter the room in which Lusat is located. If you speak to them in this location, they will give you the Stars of Ruin.
You can use the fast travel feature to get back to the Waypoint Ruins from Lusat’s location, where you will then need to inform Sellen of Lusat’s whereabouts. In exchange, she will hand over some Starlight Shards to you. She will also make a remark in passing about how she believes the bodies of Lusat and Azur should be returned to the Academy and how she wishes she could do so “if only I could undo those shackles.”
After Defeating Starscourge Radahn in Caelid
You will be able to engage in new conversation options with Sellen once you have vanquished Starscourge Radahn, which is a requirement at this point in the game. If you have already defeated Radahn by this point, all you need to do to unlock her new dialogue option is reload the area. On the other hand, if you haven’t yet accomplished that objective, you should take care of it now and then head back to Sellen in the Waypoint Ruins.
Sellen is going to ask you for yet another favour right now, and she is going to explain that the form you see in front of her is not actually her true body. It is imperative that you find Sellen at this new location in order to advance her quest; therefore, you should exit this area and make your way to the Witchbane Ruins as soon as possible. She will instruct you to search for her body on the Weeping Peninsula.
Where to Find Sorceress Sellen in the Witchbane Ruins
You will find Sorceress Sellen chained up in the dungeon of the Witchbane Ruins on the Weeping Peninsula. These ruins are located on the western side of the peninsula, just to the south of the Fourth Church of Marika. Talk to Sellen once you have arrived at the ruins, and she will entrust you with the care of her Primal Glintstone.
You will need to progress through Ranni’s Questline in order to find the location of her third form, as you will need access to Seluvis’s Secret Chamber in order to proceed with Sellen’s quest. You can get there by completing the next step in Ranni’s Questline.
Where to Find Sorceress Sellen in Seluvis’s Chamber
In order to proceed with Sellen’s quest, you need to locate Seluvis’s Secret Chamber, which you might already be familiar with from the course of the Seluvis questline. Ranni’s Rise can be found to the east of that. The specific location of the hidden chamber can be found on the Seluvis’s Questline page of this guide. It is located to the northeast of Ranni’s Rise and is obscured by an illusory floor. If you have not yet completed that page, you can do so now.
After entering the room, roll against the far wall to expose an illusionary barrier; this will lead you to Sellen, who is held captive behind the barrier. You will be presented with the option to “transplant the Primal Glintstone” at this point in the game. If you do this, the current version of Sellen will be able to reanimate, and this time she will have complete freedom of movement. She will reveal that she intends to resume her studies at the Raya Lucaria Academy in the near future. Sellen will not be present in the Waypoint Ruins if you visit them at this time; he has left.
Speaking to Castellan Jerren at Redmane Castle
In order to complete the last part of Sellen’s quest, you will need to make your way back to Redmane Castle and have a conversation with Castellan Jerren. Jerren will tell you that now that Radahn has been vanquished, he is no longer obligated to remain at the castle. You can find him now in the Witchbane Ruins, standing over the body of Sellen, which is completely covered in blood at this point. He tells you that she was known as the Graven Witch, was obsessed with restoring the primaeval current, and was the most dangerous mage known to the Academy of Raya Lucaria. He says that she was the most dangerous mage.
To complete Sellen’s questline, you must finish all of Jerren’s conversations and then immediately fast travel to Raya Lucaria. Take into account that it is likely that he has already moved on to Raya Lucaria if you are unable to locate him in Redmane Castle or Witchbane Ruins. You will know that you have arrived at the final location to find Sellen’s body if it is surrounded by blood.
Sorceress Sellen’s Final Battle
You can find two summoning stones by the entrance to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library if you travel to that location. You can be called upon to compete against the Sorceress Sellen if you have a red one, but if you have a gold one, you can be called upon to help her.
Choosing to Challenge Sellen
You will be considered a supporter of Castellan Jerren if you choose to engage in combat with Sellen. You will receive the Witch’s Glintstone Crown and Sellen’s Bell Bearing if you are successful in defeating Sellen.
Jerren will also give you an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone as a reward for your efforts. However, due to the fact that you betrayed Lusat and Azur, you will not be able to retrieve their armour sets from the locations in which their bodies are found.
Choosing to Assist Sorceress Sellen
If you accept Sorceress Sellen’s summoning to assist her in her battle against Witch-Hunter Jerren in the Grand Library, you will do so by selecting this option.
You will receive these as a reward for defeating him:
- Eccentric’s Hood
- Eccentric’s Armor
- Eccentric’s Manchettes
- Eccentric’s Breeches
When you return to your world, you will find Sellen occupying the spot previously occupied by Rennala in the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria. You will receive the Sellen Glintstone Kris when you speak to her here, and the Shard Spiral sorcery will be added to Sellen’s purchase inventory when you do so as well.
Sorceress Sellen’s Final Form
Return to Mount Gelmir and Sellia, respectively, in order to retrieve the armour sets belonging to Lusat and Azur from the locations where their bodies were previously discovered.
- Lusat’s Glintstone Crown
- Lusat’s Robe
- Lusat’s Manchettes
- Azur’s Glintstone Crown
- Azur’s Glintstone Robe
- Old Sorcerer’s Legwraps
Finally, you should go back to the Grand Library of Raya Lucaria. You will see that Sellen has transformed into a School of Graven Mages and has relocated to the opposite side of the room. You can recognise her by the Witch’s Glintstone Crown that is resting on the ground next to her. Take note that in spite of her new appearance, you can still interact with her as a merchant and purchase sorceries from her.
