Elden Ring Guide – Patches Questline

Where to Find Patches in Limgrave (First Encounter)

The first time you run into Patches, you’ll be in Limgrave’s Murkwater Cave. When you reach the final chamber of this cave, you will find that it is completely empty with the exception of a chest. As soon as you open it, you will be chastised by a voice for having the arrogance to believe that you are free to take any treasure you come across.

At this point, Patches will fall from a ledge behind you, and his boss health bar will appear on your screen. Patches is the boss of this fight. Fight him until he has approximately one-fourth of his health remaining; at that point, he will beg you to let him surrender and end the fight. You have two choices available to you here.

Kill Patches: If you decide to continue the fight, he will start fighting you again as soon as he sees that you have chosen to do so. You are left with no other option but to end the battle with death at this point, as he will not revert to his calm state while this time period is still active. After you have successfully killed him, you will obtain his one-of-a-kind armour as well as his +7 spear, which is a powerful weapon at an early stage in the game. You will also receive the Patches Bell Bearing key item, which can be taken to the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold to unlock his merchant inventory. This can be done by bringing the item to him. Nevertheless, this will bring an end to his questline.

Let Patches Live: If you stop attacking Patches when he grovels and begs for mercy (thus teaching you the Grovel for Mercy gesture), his boss health bar will disappear after a few seconds, and you will be able to speak to him. If you let Patches die, however, you will not be able to speak to him even if you learn the Grovel for Mercy gesture. He will seek your forgiveness in this matter. Regardless of the response you give, he will start working as a merchant at this location immediately.

If you decided to give Patches a chance at life, you will need to reload the area to discover that a new chest has appeared right next to Patches. This is a teleporter trap that will take you to an area in Limgrave that is close to the Mistwood Outskirts. Before you are allowed to use fast travel again, you will need to speak with a Site of Grace (the closest Site of Grace is the Mistwood Outskirts, just northwest of your destination location). You will need to repeat your conversation with him in the Murkwater Cave in order to wear him down to the point where he will move on to the next location.

Patches at the Scenic Isle Site of Grace in Liurnia

Visit Patches once more on the Scenic Isle that’s located in Liurnia. He is going to sell a couple of additional items, one of which is an Estoc. You can speak to him about both the Rya Questline and the Abductor Virgins at the bottom of the Academy of Raya Lucaria here. Both of these questlines are accessible from this location. The particular Abductor Virgin that he mentions will take you to a dungeon that is located below Volcano Manor, and in order to escape, you will need to navigate this lava-filled cavern. For more information, refer to our guide.

Note that this interaction is not required to advance his questline; even if you miss him here, he will still move to Mt. Gelmir as soon as you rest at a Site of Grace on the Altus Plateau. If you do not interact with him here, he will move there automatically.

Patches in Mt. Gelmir on the Altus Plateau

At some point in the future, patches will reappear atop Mt. Gelmir. You’ll find him to the north-northwest of the Site of Grace at the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite. You’ll notice a row of Rainbow Stones that extends all the way to the edge of a cliff. Patches, who is hiding in the bushes, will encourage you to take a look at the stones because they are shimmering if you talk to him (you can also just trigger the next action by heading past Patches and getting too close to the edge of the cliff).

A cutscene will start at this point, during which Patches will try to throw you off the edge of the cliff and warn you to stay away from Volcano Manor. If you go back to him, he will tell you that he is sorry and that you should avoid Volcano Manor like the plague.

Patches at Volcano Manor in Mt. Gelmir

Tanith is waiting for you when you arrive at the Volcano Manor, so speak with her to begin the Tanith Questline and become a member of the Volcano Manor. After having a conversation with Tanith, Patches will now appear in the entrance hallway. This happens regardless of whether or not you decide to accompany Tanith. You will now have the ability to ask him more about himself in addition to his increased merchant inventory, which will now include Great Arrows and Ballista Bolts. His merchant inventory will also be expanded.

After you have successfully carried out an assassination at Volcano Manor, Patches will send you a letter that contains a unique assassination request and will give you the opportunity to receive it. Return to Patches once you have carried out his request to eliminate the Great Horned Tragoth near the Ruin-Strrewn Precipice, and then enquire about the reward for successfully completing his mission. He will give you a candlestick shaped like a magma whip. After you have finished the Volcano Manor quest and defeated Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, you will be able to speak to him once more, at which point he will bid you farewell.

Patches at the Shaded Castle on Altus Plateau

Carry on with your travels until you arrive at the Shaded Castle, which can be found in a cove on the northern shore of the Altus Plateau. Take the lift up from the Shaded Castle Inner Gate Site of Grace until you reach a long hallway dotted with statues, at the end of which is a golden fog indicating a boss room. Proceed through this hallway until you reach the boss room (Elemer of the Briar, in this instance). Take a look to the left of the room, where you’ll find Patches dozing against the wall.

If you talk to him in this location, he will hand over the Dancer’s Castanets to you. Tanith can be found in Rykard’s chamber. It is important to note that giving them to Tanith does not appear to have any impact on either her questline or Patches’ questline. It would appear that he has passed away at this point; however, he does not leave behind any loot in this location, and his body vanishes if you reset the area. If you want to find him again, you need to go back to the Murkwater Cave in Limgrave.

Patches’ Return to Murkwater Cave in Limgrave

Any attempt to enter his arena will reveal that the boss fog has returned to its previous location. Navigate through the haze and engage in conversation with the chest, which is currently locked. Patches will once more fall to the ground below you, this time accompanied by a boss health bar, and attempt to attack you. After receiving only two or three blows from you, he will recognise who you are and put an end to the fight. If you refrain from attacking him for a moment, he will make the Patches’ Crouch gesture towards you.

Patches will reopen his emporium once the area has been loaded, at which point you will be able to access his shop and purchase any of the items that he has previously offered for sale. It is important to take note that his merchant inventory has not expanded from anything he offered previously at Volcano Manor at this point in time. It would appear that this brings an end to his questline, as he is going to remain in this location and continue working as a merchant.

Elden Ring Guide – Nepheli Loux Questline

First Encounter at Stormveil Castle

Your first encounter with Nepheli Loux will take place in Stormveil Castle, immediately prior to the fight with Godrick the Grafted. You can find her in a room to the right as you make your way through the barricades and the Warhawks just before you reach the Golden Sapling. This room is located just before the Secluded Cell. Because of the close quarters, you should take extra precautions to ensure that none of the footsoldiers in this area follow you into this room. If they do, they could easily provoke her or even kill her.

Nepheli will tell you that Sir Gideon Ofnir is her foster father and that she has been sent to slay Godrick the Grafted if you speak with her. After you have finished speaking with her at this location, proceed to the Godrick battle and look for her summons sign on the ground close to the golden fog that leads to his boss arena. It is important to keep in mind that summoning her is completely voluntary; doing so will not affect the progress she makes on her quest, and if you do decide to summon her and she passes away, she will continue to exist in your world.

First Encounter at the Roundtable Hold

Nepehli can be located at Roundtable Hold after Godrick has been vanquished there. It is necessary to exhaust Sir Gideon Ofnir’s dialogue while he is standing in his initial spot close to the Roundtable Hold Site of Grace in order to bring her to this location so that she can spawn there.

After you have done so and reloaded the area, you will find that Gideon has relocated to his study, and Nepheli has taken up residence in the nook that is located just beyond the entrance to his room. You will receive an Arsenal Charm from her. After you have finished talking to her, reload the area to find that she has left the area.

At the Village of the Albinaurics

Keep playing the game until you reach Liurnia of the Lakes, then travel around the lake to the southwest shoreline until you reach the Village of the Albinaurics. It will be possible to locate the entrance due to the transformation of the lake into a toxic swamp and the presence of a large number of crabs that patrol the area. As is customary, you should make sure that none of these creatures follow you on the path leading up to the village because they could accidentally aggro Nepheli or kill her.

You can find her here, squatting down under the stone bridge that leads up to the village and staring down at a pile of dead bodies that have been laid out on the ground. Talk to her here until you’ve exhausted all of her options to convince her to go back to Roundtable Hold.

Second Encounter at the Roundtable Hold

Once you have returned to the Rountable Hold, descend the stairs located near Master Hewg, and look for Nepheli. She will be crouching on the ground. You won’t be able to proceed with her quest any further until you have gone to the Chapel of Anticipation and retrieved the Stormhawk King Spirit Ashes. At this point, she will simply ask to be left alone.

This is also the location in which you can give her Seluvis’s Potion, as detailed further down in this article, if you have no interest in continuing the questline that she is currently involved in.

Seluvis’s Potion

When you begin the questline for Ranni the Witch, you will have the opportunity to unlock a location in Renna’s Rise known as Seluvis’ Tower. The Seluvis Questline kicks off with Seluvis asking you to retrieve a potion and deliver it to Nepheli Loux when you pay him a visit in his tower. This action marks the beginning of the quest. If you make your way back to the Roundtable Hold, Nepheli will be waiting for you downstairs. Talking to Gideon is required in order to advance with this quest. After doing so, a new dialogue option will become available, giving you the option of informing him about the potion or not. During the course of this conversation, he will give you the option of either handing the potion over to him so that he can dispose of it or complying with Seluvis’s request and giving it to Nepheli.

If you go with the first option, you won’t be able to finish Seluvis’ quest, but Nepheli won’t have to suffer the fate of turning into a summonable puppet Spirit Ash because you’ll have saved her.

However, you are free to go back to Seluvis and tell him that you have complied with Nepheli’s request by handing the elixir over to him, as Gideon hints that you should do when he throws away the potion. This should allow you to learn incantations from Seluvis after they have been unlocked.

After the Chapel of Anticipation

If you did not give Nepheli the potion, you can convince her to move to her final location by giving her the Stormhawk King Spirit Ashes. This is assuming that you did not give Nepheli the potion. You will have to go all the way back to the area where the game first began in order to accomplish this. You have the option of completing this task in one of two ways: either as part of the White-Faced Varre Questline or by employing an Imbued Stonesword Key on the sending gates in the Four Belfries that are labelled “The Precipice of Anticipation.” In either case, you need to eliminate the Grafted Scion in this location to unlock the exploration of the surrounding area and collect the ashes before returning to the Roundtable Hold. These Ashes are located in a chest that was previously locked away behind a door that was located at the very top of the chapel.

It is necessary to go back to Nepheli and give her the Spirit Ashes in order to activate new conversation options and get her to move to her final location. It is necessary to reload the Roundtable Hold area before continuing on, and you must go back to the location where she was sitting in order to retrieve two Stormhawk Axes.

Second Encounter at Stormveil Castle

You will need to have advanced the Kenneth Haight Questline to the point where Kenneth Haight has returned to his fort in Limgrave and stated that he will search for a new leader in order to convince Nepheli to move back to Stormveil Castle. Only then will she agree to return there. In the event that both Kenneth and Nepheli’s requirements are satisfied, the two of them will be waiting for you in the throne room of Stormveil Castle (just beyond the Godrick, the Grafted Site of Grace).

When you talk to Nepheli in this area, she will express her gratitude for your assistance and let you know that she has parted ways with her foster father Gideon. If you continue to speak with her, she will eventually hand over an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone to you. She promises that if you become the Lord of Elden, she will make things easier for you. Her mission is over and she has successfully completed it at this point.

Elden Ring Guide – Kenneth Haight Questline

Where to Find Kenneth Haight

From the Mistwood Outskirts, head in a northeasterly direction until you come to a large ruin that is falling apart and creating a partial bridge. You will be able to hear someone asking if you would like to assist the great Kenneth Haight as you get closer to the location. As you make your way to the top, be careful not to let any enemies follow you there; if they do, Kenneth Haight’s storyline will end much sooner than it should. It is important to take note, however, that when he passes away, he leaves behind a Golden Seed.

After you have a conversation with him, he will ask you to return his ancestral fort, which is Fort Haight. To move forward with his mission, you will need to agree to be his servant and pledge your support to him (this will not lock you out of any other NPC questlines or have any impact on storylines). Make a solemn oath to him to serve him, and then travel to the extreme southeastern corner of the eastern Limgrave region to locate Fort Haight.

After you have defeated all of the foes inside the Fort, you will need to reload the area to find Kenneth Haight waiting for you near the top of the Fort. He will tell you that he has to find a new Lord to take the place of Godrick the Grafted, and then he will retract his offer to make you a knight in the order. After yet another round of reloading the area, you will find that he has moved to his permanent position within Stormveil Castle.

At Stormveil Castle

In order for Kenneth Haight to show up in his permanent location, the following prerequisites need to be satisfied:

After meeting the requirements listed above, Kenneth Haight and Nephali Loux can be found together in the throne room of Stormveil Castle (just beyond the Godrick, the Grafted Site of Grace).

Talking to Kenneth Haight will make it clear that he has selected Lady Nepheli as the new ruler of the realm. Nepheli will express her gratitude for your assistance if you talk to her; if you continue the conversation, you will be rewarded with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. She promises that if you become the Lord of Elden, she will make things easier for you.

By moving Kenneth Haight and Nepheli Loux to the throne room in Stormveil Castle, you will be able to interact with Gatekeeper Gostoc and gain access to his shop. In his shop, you can buy an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone for 20,000 Runes.
