Pokemon Weathered Ruby Key Trainers and Other Changes – Route by Route

The following sections include spoilers, so make sure to avoid scrolling past if you wish to complete a blind playthrough. This section will be ordered chronologically, and will mostly contain the important battles you will encounter (Rival, Gym Leaders, Magma, etc.), as well as some other changes that may greatly assist you.

Generic trainers in this game are mostly optional (but the level curve is structured for you to fight all of them) and vary in difficulty, although they are all far more difficult than within the vanilla game. All generic trainers feature new Pokemon, but only around a quarter of them feature fully fleshed movesets. This is to add variety to both the Nuzlocke and blind casual experience. You will not wipe to a generic trainer during a Nuzlocke run unless you are vastly underprepared, and since all trainers are essentially optional (outside of Victory Road), I will not include every single generic trainer in this guide. All trainer Pokemon have natural movesets, any learnset changes are listed above. There are no new TMs or moves in this hack.

In a future update of this guide I may include allwild encounters, however, each route features a very similar selection of types as vanilla, just with a more diverse choice of Pokemon. You will have plenty of encounters for a Nuzlocke challenge. (Also, if you are in a Nuzlocke, do not hesitate to buy the cheap rare candies in Petalburg City!!).

For trainers with IV trained pokemon, I will include one number, of which is applied to each of the Pokemons stats (ex. 31 IVs will be spread across all stats, same with 10 IVs, etc). No trainers feature EV’s—don’t worry, the level curve accounts for this.

– Littleroot – Rustboro:
1: Starters are generic—Mudkip, Torchic, and Treecko, but will be attained at level 7. Don’t worry, the first rival fight won’t have any super effective moves to use against you.

2: Petalburg Forest Magma Grunt – Not hard, but it is relatively strong and should be noted as a potential Nuzlocke run killer. (*Trainer has one Potion.)

2: As said in the in-game intro, the rival will only be customized (including teams) if you play as a male. I can, with some work, correct this in the future if enough people ask. I accidentally nuked the INI of the Brendan rival battle scenes without a good backup 🙁
